Only Kanye West would debut his new cinematic experience at the world famous Palm Beach in Cannes, while the Cannes Film Festival just happens to be going on. But I don’t hear anyone complaining. On May 23, Kanye and his new creative firm DONDA will premiere Cruel Summer, a fusion of short film and art installation, inspired by the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music album of the same name. Cruel Summer is being touted as an immersive “7 Screen Experience” for the eyes and ears, unlike anything Kanye has attempted before.
Produced, written and directed by Yeezy himself, Cruel Summer stars Aziz Ansari and Kid Cudi, among others, and is based on a screenplay by Elon Rutberg. It is also co-directed by Alexandre Moors, who worked with Kanye on his last short film, Runaway.
If you happen to be in the French Riviera next week, the installation will remain open for public access for the two days after its world premiere on May 23. Tickets are available for free HERE.
