I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of The Mynabirds. Outside of Omaha, Nebraska, the world is still catching on. But once you lay your eyes on Laura Burhenn, it’s hard to take them off of her. With an unmistakable style, the singer-songwriter has led the musical collective since 2009, with their sophomore album, GENERALS, releasing in June. And in the music video for “Disarm,” co-directed by the album’s producer Richard Swift and Lance Troxel, you get a glimpse into her magical world.

“To me, the wolf and the bear represent gods of warring worlds,” Burhenn told Rolling Stone, “and the warrior women are caught in the middle, lost in the night, trying to find their way. When the two gods share this mystical drink, they bring peace. And the warriors dance. It’s like drinking the Kool-Aid, but in the very best way possible.”
